Recipes: Caramel Bars

  1. Grease a 12" x 7" tin. Preheat oven to 180 degrees centigrade, gas mark 4 or 350 degrees farenheight
  2. Cream 100g margarine and 50g Caster Sugar together
  3. Mix in flour and oats
  4. Press into tin and bake for 15 minutes, then allow to cool
  5. Melt 100g margarine, and add condensed milk and 50g soft brown sugar over a low heat
  6. Increase heat and boil for 5 minutes stirring continuously
  7. Pour over base and leave to cool for at least 30 minutes
  8. Melt 100g margarine and stir in icing sugar and cocoa.
  9. Add 2 tablespoons of water, and if necessary up to another 2 tablespoons
  10. Spread over caramel and leave to set. Can be dusted with icing sugar.
  11. When set cut into pieces
